Film Festival

Reel Alternatives Huntsville annually holds a mini film festival. Traditionally held at the end of March or early April, the film festival runs over a weekend and encompasses a series of films reflecting the variety of films that Reel screens throughout the year.

Due to the renovations to the theatre in the eary months of 2009, Reel Alternatives have opted not to present a festival this year but instead are putting their focus on supporting the Huntsville High School's Film Festival to be held April 30 at the Algonquin Theatre.  Subtitled Messages in a Minute, this will feature a series of short films created by students from schools across the Trillium Lakelands Board dealing with various relevant topics.  Screenings start at 7 pm and tickets are available from the Algonquin Theatre at 789-4975.

Scholarship
Each year aspiring students who reside in the Huntsville and Lake of Bays area have the opportunity to apply for scholarship support through Reel Alternatives. Although there are no set funding amounts Reel historically supported students based on need, the project they have presented, or the type of school program that they will be attending. Past winners have completed short film documentaries, and attended some of the best film and media study programs in the Province. Applications are available in late April and are available from the Huntsville High School.

Sponsorship

Corporate sponsorship is sought for each Reel Alternatives movie. Currentsponsorship rates are $150. For this the sponsor receives recognition on the tickets, on the web page and in the radio ads and newspaper articles relating to the film sponsored. They also are recognized in the theatre on the night of the screening, receive a pair of complimentary tickets to the screening, and have the opportunity to use the reverse of the tickets, or the evening itself, to build in a promotional initiative. Some sponsors have used the reverse of the tickets as a discount coupon, handed out promotional flyers, or donated items to be given away in our nightly draw.
